Initiated by her observations of shadows in the earth and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months experimenting with a method that allows objects to be represented in two dimensions onto canvas. The subject becomes a replica that is its own and the canvas carries its own interpretation painted by the object, particularly in the case of a living object or perishable such as fruit or people. Alexa Meade's works are fleeting however the photograph remains. Techniques of photography and painting closely synchronized, which results in a flat, two-dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil.
